Hi gang, Coach Moore here with a quick recap of last nights game and a glance at our game tonight versus UM-Crookston.
First for a review of our win over the Minnesota State - Moorhead. I felt our energy level was outstanding last night during the entire game. Everyone who stepped on the floor had great energy and we were really flying up and down the court last night. I think having the nice crowd added to our energy level. This was our largest crowd of the year and you could see our guys feeding off of the energy from it. Having so many fans in attendance is really a great thing, we thank you all so much for the support, you don't realize how much you can help us during the play of a game and that you do make a difference in the outcome of the game. Thank you. Other then our energy a couple of things we did really well were rebounding the basketball and moving the ball. Our ball movement for most of the game was excellent, we made the extra pass to allow us a wide open look, which was knocked down frequently. Like I have said in the past, when we move the ball by attacking with the dribble and swinging it from side to side we are a tough team to stop offensively. When we have one person just hold onto the ball or dribble it around everywhere that is when we stand on offense and we end up struggling to get a great look. I hope we can carry this over to our game again tonight.
As for tonight's game. UM-Crookston is a team that is very close to making that jump to being a very dangerous team to play and I hope tonight they do not make that jump. This year they have had a ton of close games and they just can't seem to win one but they will be a factor this year with how the conference ends up. The Golden Eagles are lead by sophomore wing Akeem Cubie, Cubie is a long 6'5 player who is really starting to come into his own. He leads them in scoring at 13 ppg and is grabbing 5 rpg as well. Other players to keep an eye on for the Golden Eagles are point guard Bryce Cummings and wing player Matt Pelzer. Pelzer is the leading rebounder on the team and is one of the better spot shooters on the team, Cummings is a player who in the past has had some huge games and is capable of going off in the scoring column any given night.
Keys for tonight's game will be our ability to get out and run in transition as much as possible. Our guys did an excellent job last night but lets see if we can carry it over tonight and be even better then we were last night. We will once again have to rebound the basketball, unlike last night we will not have a huge size advantage for most of the game. We need to be physical and crash the boards whenever we can. Finally we need to contain our man one on one on the defensive end. UM-Crookston likes to go one on one whenever they can, we must contain our man and not let them break us down. If we do get broken down it could be a long night as they have some very good shooters who we cannot let them get going.
Well that is all for now, I hope to see many of you at our game tonight. Go Warriors!!
